Can you answer the following questions correctly?
• What are the first three words of the Constitution?
• What is an amendment?
• What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?
• What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?
• How many amendments does the Constitution have?
If you are interested in becoming a U.S. citizen, you will need to take a Naturalization Test that includes civics questions such as these. You will need to answer a certain number correctly in order to pass the test. You will also need to take an English test to determine your understanding of the English language.
The answers to these questions, plus information on the English test, can be found in the publication Learn About the United States; Quick Civics Lessons for the Naturalization Test (2013) by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The USCIS is the main Federal agency that grants United States citizenship; their Web site has the resources needed to answer questions on a range of issues for future U.S. citizens.
